Arnhem 74th Anniversary (6 Days via Hull) (Closed)

The airborne operation at Arnhem was part of a larger plan, conceived by Field Marshal Montgomery, to bring about a quick end to the war. The American 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisons were to capture the bridges between Eindhoven and Nijmegen. The bridge at Arnhem, spanning the Neder Rijn, was to be taken by General Roy Urquhart’s British 1st Airborne Division. Ground troops in the shape of the British XXX Corps would then cross the bridges and launch an armoured thrust into the heart of the Third Reich.

The plan ultimately failed but what unfolded at Arnhem in September, 1944 became an epic story of courage, endurance and sacrifice.
