Flanders & the Ypres Salient (3 Days)

Flanders, 1914-18; War raged around the small Flemish town of Ypres for almost four years. In 1914, the British Expeditionary Force made its stand at the First Battle of Ypres. As winter set in, the stalemate of trench warfare replaced battlefield mobility. This region also witnessed mine warfare, the first use of gas and flamethrowers as well as countless small actions and trench raids. Passchendaele became the most notorious of the battles fought here. For many, it epitomises the horror and futility of the Great War.
